ComicConnect Event Auction: Captain America Comics #1 CGC 8.0

Captain America Comics #1 hit the newsstands just before Christmas Day in 1940 as the conflagration burning across Europe and Asia was threatening to explode. Cap’s Hitler-thrashing cover debut by Jack Kirby was the flame that drew comic fans like moths. Readers immediately fell in love with the gutsy, gleefully aggressive new hero, who wore his allegiance on his sleeve (well, his forehead, at any rate). In these pre-Pearl Harbor days, such an image was simply incendiary, and copies flew off the shelves leading to a nearly 75-year run as the preeminent symbol of American heroism.

ComicConnect is offering a CGC-certified 8.0 VF copy that is a true rarity as it was printed without red inks. “Inconclusive reports suggest there could only be a couple of these out there, but even CGC can't confirm or deny this information,” explained Director of Consignments, Rob Reynolds. “This is a wonder to behold.” In April of 2016, ComicConnect sold a CGC 8.0 VF copy for $288,000.

“Demand for Captain America Comics #1 is insatiable. Records are getting set and broken nearly every time one comes to market,” explained Vincent Zurzolo, Chief Operating Officer.
