First Appearance of Robin Headlines Hake's Americana & Collectibles' Summer Auction

Coming off their best auction ever (the past two auctions combining to realize over $4 million dollars in sales), Hake's Americana & Collectibles has turned up the heat for their upcoming auction (online June 19th at hakes.com and closing July 10-12), by offering a CGC certified example of a key Golden Age Batman comic, Detective Comics #38, featuring the first appearance of Batman’s cheerful sidekick - Robin! Graded 5.5 (Fine-) Universal (Blue Label), it’s the highlight of another auction featuring hundreds of CGC certified comic books, ranging from the Golden Age to the Modern Age.

Coming from a recently discovered collection of Golden Age comics, this issue is fresh to the market, having never been offered at auction before.

Golden Age comics are in high demand among collectors, as it was during this period many of today’s most enduring and popular characters first appeared. Due to Homefront efforts during World War II, many comic books were scrapped for the war effort, increasing the scarcity and value of these Golden Age gems.

A few of the other auction highlights from the Golden Age include Batman #1 CGC NG (featuring the first appearances of popular Batman villains The Joker and Catwoman), Batman #2 CGC 5.0, Detective Comics #36 CGC 4.5 and Action #23 (featuring the first appearance of longtime Superman nemesis Lex Luthor).

Some Silver Age highlights include the first appearance of the Fantastic Four in Fantastic Four #1 CGC 4.5 and the first appearance of Spider-Man in Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC Restored 3.0.

Aside from graded comic books, bidders will have the opportunity to acquire collectibles across 200 collecting categories and more than 2,000 auction lots.

The auction goes online Tuesday, June 19, 2018 and the auction closes July 10-12, 2018. Be sure to check Hake's website for more information on the full selection of CGC-graded comic book offerings in the newest Hake's Americana & Collectibles auction!
