Metropolis: World's Most Valuable Movie Poster at Morgan Library and Museum

Through January 27, 2019, The Morgan Library and Museum is celebrating the two hundredth anniversary of Mary Shelley’s classic novel, Frankenstein, with their exhibition, “It’s Alive! Frankenstein at 200.” Among the materials presented, are portions of the original manuscript, historic scientific instruments, comic books, memorabilia, and movie posters.

A six-sheet movie poster, on loan from the private collection of Metropolis CEO Stephen Fishler, can be viewed in public for the first time in nearly twenty years. “The poster was on display at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2000 and I’m thrilled to share it again,” Fishler explained. “The Morgan Library’s Frankenstein exhibit is the perfect medium to display the world’s greatest movie poster.”

The poster, a stone litho print created to advertise the 1931 horror classic is “gorgeous, it’s one-of-a-kind, and its historical significance is without peer,” Fishler continued. “This is the world’s most valuable movie poster, plain and simple.”

The Morgan Library and Museum is located at 225 Madison Avenue at 36th Street, NY, NY and is just a short walk from Metropolis Gallery at 36 West 37th Street.
