Where are all the Bronze CGC 9.8's? Part 3 of 3 by Bruce Coller

This is the end my friends… the last installment of this 3-part article. For those of you that missed installment 1 please click here (part 1)  and/or installment 2 please click here (part 2) to catch up.

As mentioned last month, I posted a thread in the Bronze Section at the CGC Forum based on the first installment of this article. The first installment contained the bulk of information and opinion and delved into various theories regarding the surprising lack of supply to date of various bronze keys and series. Some very interesting discussions and debate took place from that point. Please visit … GPA Article: "Where are These Bronze 9.8's". I think you’ll find it worth the time spent.

I recently heard from fellow GPAdvisor and “CGC forum legend” Greg Loey (Greggy) who recently submitted a number of items listed in the previous two “Where are the Bronze 9.8’s” installments. Greg has a reputation as having one of the “sharpest eyes” in the hobby. Many of his finest “raw acquisitions” were made long ago and were carefully stored until the advent of CGC. The introduction of CGC’s third-party grading has earned Greg enormous rewards for his hard work and forethought that someday ultra high-grade bronze comics would be in demand and command astonishing prices. I own several of his now CGC graded hand-picked beauties and soon will add another to my collection. A recent call to CGC revealed Greg had obtained not only 1, but 2 copies of Howard The Duck 1 in 9.8! These are the first copies to earn the elusive grade in 6 years… and were both sold for close to $400 each!

There is a significant number of high-grade CGC collectors (myself included) that are very aggressive when items that they highly covet finally become available. When said items are in very low supply or have previously not even existed in the desired grade, some take no chances and will make very strong efforts to acquire them. Hopefully, Greg’s Howard the Duck #1 9.8 example above (and what they earned him) will serve as an incentive to collectors and dealers who have been following these articles, Take the “No/Low 9.8” item’s potential I’ve spotlighted… seriously! There are significant (sometimes surprising) rewards to be had if you produce any of them, and particularly if you are the “first” to do so.

If any of you fortunate collectors or dealers have recently produced any 9.8 from the 3 lists I’ve provided PLEASE contact me through the CGC forum PM system (Bronzebruce13). I’d be happy to make a serious offer if given the opportunity… and would like to keep this list updated. If you already own ANY of the above 9.8’s and are thinking of selling (or want to see what I have to trade), please contact me any time!

Here’s the final installment covering (Q through Z)…
