CGC-Graded Comics Lead Heritage Auctions Comics & Comic Art Signature® Auction September 8-11
Among the highlights is Detective Comics No. 27 (DC, 1939) CGC Apparent FN/VF 7.0 Slight (A-1) Off-white pages. The issue is acknowledged as the second-most valuable comic book and has been closing in on Action Comics No. 1 for the top spot in recent years. Many of those who weigh in on the Batman vs. Robin debate and side with the Dark Knight consider this to be the most important comic book ever published, because it features the first appearance of Batman (Bruce Wayne), as well as the first appearance of Commissioner James “Jim” Gordon.
The Marvel Age officially kicked off in 1961 with Fantastic Four No. 1 (Marvel, 1961) CGC VF/NM 9.0 Off-white to white pages. Ant-Man, the Hulk, Thor and Spider-Man joined the Marvel Universe a year later, followed in 1963 by Iron Men and the X-Men. The issue includes the first appearance of the Fantastic Four, Marvel’s first superhero team that includes Mr. Fantastic, the Thing, Invisible Girl and the Human Torch.
