CGC-Graded Comics Lead Heritage Auctions' Weekly Comics Auction to Third Straight Record Res

Heritage Auctions, the world's largest comics auctioneer broke the world record for the largest weekly comics auction for the third consecutive week when its Sunday & Monday Comics, Animation, Video Games & Art Weekly Online Auction, which closed Feb. 15 on HA.com, reached $694,430 in total sales.

Not surprisingly, the event was led by comics carrying CGC grades.

The top lot in the auction was Amazing Fantasy #15 (Marvel, 1962) CGC Apparent VG 4.0 Slight/Moderate (C-2) Off-white to white pages. Nearly two dozen bids boosted the result to $19,200 for the top-ranked issue on Overstreet's list of Top 50 Silver Age Comics, which features the origin and first appearance of Spider-Man, as well as the first appearances of key supporting characters like Uncle Ben and Aunt May.

The Incredible Hulk #1 (Marvel, 1962) CGC VG- 3.5 White pages rode 28 bids to a total of $14,400. The issue includes the origin and first appearance of the Hulk, who is depicted in his original grey color instead of his more familiar green. With a cover and art by Jack Kirby, the issue is ranked No. 2 on Overstreet's list of Top 50 Silver Age Comics.
